The Ministry of Training colleges and Universities has a Literacy and Basic Skills program that involves management of approximately 300 hundred diverse sites through out the Province of Ontario. While working on this project one of our senior developers worked with a participating project partner in the development and enhancement of applications that ran both at remote client sites and at the central management office. The system manages and tracks funding dollars and the associated learners for the agencies in Ontario in multiple languages and on multiple platforms. The central site consolidates the remote sites data by downloading portions of the local databases from the remote sites and processes and consolidates that data for program management into a central database.

The State of New York needed to replace a legacy system that was used to create and administer legal decision documents that resulted from various hearings. The new system would need to support hundreds of distributed users and allow the administrators to reconfigure the application as the legal and other requirements changed. We designed and built a functional prototype to meet their challenging RFI requirements. Our prototype was highly praised by the client and has provided them a proof of concept for an entirely new way of solving their business needs as well as support the integration needs of the many diverse systems that make up the decision document creation process.

Hand held GPS (Global Positioning System) units are becoming a more common tool for navigation and location applications of many varieties. This set of tools was created to allow the tracking and waypoint data captured by a GPS device to be downloaded, parsed and stored in a database. The GPS data can then be plotted on screen or integrated into a Microsoft MapPoint GIS map.

Nine Men’s Morris is a classic two player strategy board game that goes by a number of different names and dates back to perhaps 1400 BC. This particular implementation of the game runs on the Pocket PC under the Win CE operating system as well as on a regular Windows desktop OS. The application works in single or two-player mode and a version is in development that is playable over the internet or IrDA (infrared) ports. A variety of computer opponents of various skill levels are provided to challenge the single player’s strategic ability.

A fitness and squash center with over one hundred squash members had a need to present house league scheduling information and member contact information in an easy, convenient and timely way. We designed and created a small web sited powered by ASP that addresses the mentioned issues. Privacy of member’s phone numbers is protected as numbers are accessible only to other registered members via an automated email-back system that does not require logon or the use of passwords.

With over 300 participants, this Unisys led project qualifies in the top few percent for large scale n-tier development projects of its time. Object-oriented design and project methodologies were used together with parallel iterative efforts when creating this consumer lending application of considerable size. The client, a leader in the US financial and consumer lending systems industry, needed the system to support clients in multiple languages and in a number of different countries. A number of senior consultants from our firm were contracted by Unisys Corporation to assist with the large scale effort.

Counterforce is a leader in the electronic security systems providing high quality alarm monitoring. With over 800 alarm dealers and over 40,000 monitored customers, Counterforce wanted to create a web presence that would provide quality information to both groups. The original web site was created in 1996 and completely re-designed in 1998 by one of our principal consultants.

In an effort to support our local community, members of our company have devoted a great deal of time and expertise as volunteers on the Web Committee of the local township. The committee is responsible for the entire town's web site from concept and design to the actual entering of the web page data.  Our consultants have played a significant role and have been honored by the Government of Ontario with Ontario Volunteer Service Awards for their work.

A companion product for Microsoft's Outlook, this application captures incoming call-id information and searches your Outlook contact files to see if you have this caller on file. Incoming calls and related contacts are listed in a call window. Incoming names and numbers can also be easily added to your Outlook contact files by a simple click or a drag of the mouse. Visual Byte created this tool as a useful productivity enhancement for Microsoft's Outlook.

Used in the alarm monitoring and security industry, this product monitors a telephone line for incoming calls from emergency phones in elevators. The caller-id of the incoming call is compared against a customer database and the customer file is displayed along with the particular instructions for the operator to follow for this customer. Visual Byte designed this application to allow for several levels of operator security and support incident archiving, as well as include customer history, report printing and automated backup features. The client required a needs analysis, system specification, design and development for this project.

Intranet publishing & maintenance over the Internet was made extremely simple for the client's end users with this product. The people responsible for the creation of the documents that made up the various municipality web sites in the Municom site could update their web spaces with little or no knowledge of Internet workings. Visual Byte implemented powerful wizards to prompt the user for document details. Behind the scenes these wizards would connect to the web site, transfer the documents, modify the link or menu pages and maintain the sites integrity and common design elements without the user thinking about FTP, HTTP or HTML. The initial specification had been laid out for this project and Visual Byte was responsible for design and implementation of the application.

These were a series of data manipulation utilities that took mainframe data and updated a Commence database application. Some of the utilities Visual Byte developed needed to process batches of 12 million or more records at a time. Payroll, leasing and equipment allocation logic was applied to the insurance companies data.

This series of utilities is an on-going project to develop a set of equity investment tools. The three main areas that these tools address are analysis of historic data stored on CD, real time condition-based stock monitor and situation-based profit calculator. We have designed and developed the tools in house from their initial concept stages.

By analyzing the serial data feed from a telephone PBX system, we created this package to report a wide variety of call response data. Management uses the dynamic on screen reports to monitor operator response times in a busy call centre. Visual Byte developed this application design based on the specific needs described by the client.

Used by many large businesses to plan for the event of a business interruption, this commercial disaster recovery management tool is a comprehensive all-in-one tool that greatly simplifies the creation of a disaster plan. The package includes sample plans and models, as well as a large database of information to allow the user to create, manage and maintain the necessary tasks, contacts, resources and assets required to make and execute a workable plan. The product produces a complete Business Recovery Manual and/or can be used interactively in case of plan testing or execution. The many complex relationships of data are easily manageable with the many flexible reporting options and the intuitive interface. As the software developer for this system, Visual Byte was required to carry on and complete this large project after the original software developer had begun and abandoned the initial layout and design early in the development phase. We worked closely with the client to integrate their disaster consulting skills into this time saving application.

As the main sponsors and organizers of the longest running Toronto Visual Basic user group we also design, develop and maintain the group's web presence. The VBDOGs web site supports traffic and inquires from Visual Basic programmers from many countries all around the world.
